This option is pretty new. Formerly it was only possible to choose between a light and a dark theme. But now, after Google published the third preview of Android N, people detected this new feature there and extracted the APK (Version 5.1.x), so that everyone can use this feature now.
Here are the steps you have to follow to set a custom background in Google keyboard:
- First go to APKMirror and download the APK (Link).
- Then install the app (Make sure you enabled “Install from unknown sources†in the security settings).
- Open the app.
- Now you find there a menu entry called “Themeâ€. Select that.
- Choose whatever theme you like. Select between the predefined or select a custom background.
That's all! The feature is pretty nice, right?
