Google Translate celebrates it's 10th birthday

It is already ten years ago, that Google launched Google Translate. Since then they've grown from supporting two languages to 103, and from hundreds of users to hundreds of millions. And now they don't only have a website, they also have this cool Android and iOS app, with which you can even live-translate what your camera sees.

Our goal was to break language barriers and to make the world more accessible. – Google

Here are some things to mention about Google Translate:

  • more than 500 million users
  • 100 billion words are translated every day
  • there's a Translate Community, where you can help improving Google Translate
  • 92% of the users are outside the US
  • Brazil uses the service more than any other country
  • you can see live translations in 28 languages
  • the app allows you two have bilingual conversations in 32 languages

I personally didn't know that Translate is translating more than 100 billion words a day, but it's logically, because you can also translate whole websites and you can use the language recognition.

Happy Birthday! Gelukkige verjaardag! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! お誕生日おめでとうございます!
